The Oklahoma Business Roundtable hosted our annual meeting at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa last week on June 8th. Here's a summary of the key highlights:
1. Updates from Governor Stitt and Lt. Governor Pinnell: The meeting began with updates from Governor Stitt and Lt. Governor Pinnell. They covered various topics including workforce development, the legislative session, and statewide events. These updates provided members with insights into the current situation in Oklahoma.
2. i2e's Love's Cup Collegiate Competition: Two winners of i2e's Love's Cup Collegiate Competition, which was sponsored by the Roundtable, had the opportunity to address the group. This competition showcased innovative ideas and entrepreneurial talent from college students in Oklahoma.
3. Overview of the Business Leaders Poll: The Roundtable and the OK State Chamber sponsored the third annual Business Leaders Poll. The survey involved over 400 businesses and aimed to assess Oklahoma's business climate. The results were promising overall, but it highlighted workforce and education as the most challenging issues. 4. Keynote address by Brent Haken: Brent Haken, the new director of Oklahoma's Career Tech system, delivered the keynote address. He provided valuable insights into the program, which handles over 440,000 enrollments across the state. The Career Tech system plays a crucial role in providing training opportunities to many Oklahomans.
5. Introduction of the Roundtable's new Board Chairman: The meeting concluded with the introduction of the Roundtable's new Board Chairman, Dave Stewart. Dave Stewart serves as the Chief Administrator of Mid America Industrial Park in Pryor, OK. His appointment as the new Board Chairman demonstrates the Roundtable's commitment to effective leadership and collaboration.
6. In the business portion of our meeting, the 2023-2024 budget was approved along with a slate of officers and directors.
